Text Box: The Men’s Golf Association held their second annual Ryder Cup format Tournament (AKA War by the Shore) on August 18-20. The kick of meeting and dinner was held on Friday night. On Saturday the teams played four ball matches on holes 1-9 and foursome matches on holes 10-18. Lunch was provided along with a lot of heckling back and forth between the teams. Sunday started out with four ball matches on hole 1-9 and then switched formats to individuals matches on holes 10-18 followed by Brunch and celebration or not, depending on which team you were on. The winners captained by Donnie St. Germain were Duke Apffel, Frank Bohn, Randy Carey, Doug Culp, Michael Kleinecke, Bryan Laswell, Ira Levin, Charlie Martorell, Bob McCarthy, Bill Murison, Mike Nesmith, Danny Paris, and Rick Vaiani with 18 1/2 points. The second place team co-captained by James Jobe and Bret Stout were Tom Allman, John Best, Paul Burke, Gerald Cleveland, Vincent Conti, Walter Cronkright, John Garza, Hal Gregory, Ed Hlopak, Willy Luthy, Don Mafrige, David Murphy, and Val Ramirez with 16 1/2 points. Everyone had a great time and if you missed it this year, make sure you mark your calendar for the third annual “War by the Shore” Text Box: A special thank you to Carolyn Gowan for hosting a luncheon for its members to help celebrate the birthdays of those who were willing to admit that they were 80 years young.   Congratulations to Mary Hirsch, Anita Weiner, and Carol Touchy.       We had a great LGA Championship this year.  A special thank you Cathy Luthy and Dottie Hlopak for organizing the fun-filled tournament and thank you to all the ladies who participated.      The LGA will be hosting the two day interclub tournament at the country club on October 25 and 26.  There will be guests from seven other clubs and everyone looks forward to playing our golf course and enjoying the LGA's hospitality.     This  is an opportune  time to join the LGA because if you join in October, it will count for 2007.  We have exciting things planned for the rest of the year so if you are interested, please call Cathy Luthy @737-5319 or Christina Best @737-3630.
